How Often Should an Office Be Professionally Cleaned?
It's one of the most common questions we get from office managers and business owners: how often does a workspace actually need professional cleaning? The honest answer is that it depends on a few key factors, not a single fixed rule. Here's how to think it through.
It starts with foot traffic
The biggest factor is simply how many people move through your space each day. A small office of 5–10 people won't accumulate dirt, dust and germs at the same rate as a busy workspace with 50+ staff, visitors and clients coming and going. As a general guide:
Small offices (under 15 people): 2–3 times per week is usually enough to keep things presentable and hygienic.
Medium offices (15–50 people): daily cleaning is typically needed, particularly for kitchens, bathrooms and high-touch surfaces.
Larger or high-traffic sites (50+ people, retail, healthcare-adjacent, community facilities): daily cleaning is standard, and some areas may need attention more than once a day.
Some areas need more attention than others
Not every part of your office wears down at the same rate. Bathrooms and kitchens should be cleaned daily regardless of overall office size, since they're the areas most linked to hygiene complaints and illness spread. High-touch surfaces, door handles, light switches, shared equipment, benefit from more frequent attention too. Meanwhile, general areas like meeting rooms or storage spaces can often be cleaned on a lighter schedule without anyone noticing the difference.
Your industry matters more than most people think
A standard office and a healthcare, aged care or community facility have very different cleaning needs, even if they're a similar size. Environments where hygiene directly affects client or patient wellbeing need stricter protocols, more frequent disinfection of shared surfaces, and cleaners who understand infection control, not just general tidiness. This is one of the reasons we built our business around healthcare-informed standards. We know the difference between a space that looks clean and one that actually is.
The real cost of under-cleaning
It's tempting to stretch out a cleaning schedule to save money, but under-cleaning tends to cost more in the long run. Neglected offices see more staff sick days, faster wear on carpets and surfaces, and a negative first impression on clients or visitors walking through the door. A cleaning schedule that's slightly ahead of what feels necessary is almost always cheaper than fixing the problems that come from falling behind.
So, how often should your office be cleaned?
As a starting point:
Daily: bathrooms, kitchens, high-touch surfaces, bins
2–3 times per week: general floor cleaning, desks, common areas (for smaller offices)
Weekly: deeper cleans, vacuuming under furniture, less-used spaces
Quarterly: windows, upholstery, and other less frequent deep-clean tasks
The right frequency ultimately comes down to your specific space, foot traffic and industry. That's why we don't offer one-size-fits-all packages. We build a cleaning plan around your actual site, not a generic template.
